Developing Competitive NIH Research Project Grant Applications
Part 1: Advance Preparation with NIH Resources- We reviewed online NIH resources that are critical to the development of a competitive RPG application: institute and center (IC) websites, NIH RePORT and RePORTER, and the Center for Scientific Review Assisted Referral Tool. We also discussed how to identify and communicate with appropriate Program Officers and Scientific Review Officers and how to identify the best study section for your application.
Part 2: Proposal Development Process- We reviewed updates to the NIH structure and priorities and their effect on the planning and development of RPG applications. We focused on strategies for developing the narrative portions of your application using data and input from resources discussed in the first session to satisfy the priorities and requirements of the funding opportunity and sponsoring institute as well as the new review framework and reviewers.
