Introduction to Mixed Methods Research
Research studies are typically classified as qualitative, quantitative, or a combination of the two, referred to as mixed methods research. While many studies use a single approach, mixed methods research has emerged as a valuable design that leverages the strengths of both qualitative and quantitative approaches to provide a more comprehensive understanding. It can be used to enhance the interpretation of data, explain quantitative results with qualitative insights, or assess the broader relevance of findings from small qualitative samples.
In this webinar, participants gained an overview of mixed methods research, including its definition, rationale, philosophical foundations, and core design types. We explored how to formulate research questions, choose an appropriate mixed methods design, and consider key methodological components such as timing, integration, prioritization, and inference strategies.
