From Idea to IP, Start Up, STTR and SBIR
This session offered a faculty-focused roadmap from idea to startup and outlined key steps in the commercialization process. Translation of research into practice is central to Pitt’s mission and strategic vision, especially within the Health Sciences, where commercialization excellence is a core pillar. Panelists discussed how to evaluate the translational potential of your work, navigate intellectual property and regulatory pathways, and identify funding opportunities, including SBIR/STTR grants and dilutive funding. They also highlighted Innovation Institute programs and resources available to support faculty at every stage, from early concept to company launch.
