This yearly series is for medical educators, with a different focus area each Friday morning of the month from 8-9am.
This series consists of:
- Medical Education Journal Club - First Friday
- Medical Education Research Methods and Innovative Design (MERMAID) - Second Friday
- Medical Education Research Conference (MERC) - Third Friday
- Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators Seminar Series - Fourth Friday
Details on how to receive CME credit for attending a seminar will be provided the day of each event. Seminars will be recorded, and videos will be posted here for later viewing. Based on CCEHS guidelines, however, only those in attendance during live seminars are eligible to receive CME credit.
Med Ed Journal Club
1st Friday of the Month from 8-9AM on Zoom
Are you too busy to stay on top of latest health education literature? Medical Education Journal Club is the perfect solution! Each month, educators from across the health sciences come together to discuss a recently published education article. A critical appraisal of an article is led by a different person each month, and together, we explore the applicability of the study findings to our own teaching practice and scholarship through a facilitated discussion.
To make these meeting discussions timely, articles will be chosen closer to the meeting dates.
For more information about Med Ed Journal Club or to indicate your interest in presenting at a future conference, please contact the conference organizer, Dr. Gretchen Shelesky, at sheleskyg@upmc.edu.

Medical Education Research Methods and Innovative Design (MERMAID)
2nd Friday of the Month from 8-9AM on Zoom
Conducting education research is both exciting and challenging. Many of us educators don’t have formal research training and those of us who do are always up for learning new skills! If you want to hear about a variety of methods you can apply to your own research, or simply want a better understanding of study design, join us for MERMAID. This is a monthly series devoted to exploring research methods that work well in health education research, including application of theoretical frameworks, use of statistical methods, evaluation strategies, and educational psychometrics.
For more information about MERMAID or to indicate your interest in presenting at a future conference, please contact the conference organizers, Drs. Julie Childers at childersjw2@upmc.edu and Sarah Merriam at Sarah.Merriam@VA.gov.
