The Sixteenth Postdoctoral Data & Dine Symposium is a scientific poster session for University of Pittsburgh postdoctoral associates and scholars to present their research while also networking and enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres with attendees.

Judging Guidelines:
  • There will be assigned presentation times for judging purposes.
  • Presenters will be notified in advance of their assigned exhibit time and need to be at their poster during that time to be eligible.
  • Awards will be given in the following categories:
  1.   Engineering, Physical, and Computational Sciences
  2.   Basic Biomedical and Pharmacological Sciences
  3.   Cellular and Molecular Biology
  4.   Clinical and Surgical Sciences
  5.   Behavioral Sciences, Education and Curriculum, and DEI
  • Presenters will have an opportunity to suggest a category when registering. Please contact the UPPDA if you have questions about which category fits your research
  • Posters will be judged by a group of faculty and postdoctoral fellows, although they will not be identified as such while judging.
  • Scoring will be based upon creativity, style, content, impact, presentation, and overall impression.
  • The number of categories and number of awards will be at the discretion of the judges.
  • Award winners will be announced following the poster presentation period.

Symposium Format

The Data & Dine Symposium is a scientific poster session for postdoctoral trainees and a networking event with the University of Pittsburgh community. Two poster sessions, each 45 minutes in length, will take place from 4pm-5:30pm. Networking will occur during and following both poster sessions. Awards will be announced at the end of the symposium.

Guest registration is open to all students, colleagues, faculty, and administrators. Due to the professional nature of the event, attendance is restricted to adults. Business casual attire is encouraged.

2:00-4:00pm: Poster set-up
3:30-4:00pm: Registration
4:00-5:30pm: Poster sessions
5:30-7:00pm: Networking and announcement of awards


Abstract Requirements for Posters

Please use the following guidelines as you prepare your abstract:

  • Microsoft Word Document (.doc, .docz)
  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12, single spacing, one-inch margins
  • Length: Abstracts are limited to 1800 characters excluding spaces and should not contain graphs or images.
  • 1st line: Title
  • 2nd line: Author(s)- last name, first name
  • 3rd line: Affiliation(s)
  • Name Your File: (Presenting author's last name)_datadine2023.doc

Abstract Submission and Registration

Please download the 2023 Data & Dine Abstract Template

Once you have completed the template with your information, save your abstract as "First Author Last Name_datadine2023". By submitting an abstract, you are automatically registered for the poster presentation and networking event.

The abstract submission deadline has passed.


Poster Presentation

Posters themselves should be no larger than 4' high x 6' wide.

NEWPlease pin a separate, 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper containing a brief, layperson summary next to your poster. The purpose is to help all attendees, including those outside of your domain, to easily understand your research.

You will receive notification regarding which of two poster sessions you are required to be in front of your poster during the symposium. Judging will occur during your assigned time.
