Mentoring Success Stories

Paula K. Davis, MA, and Ann E. Thompson, MD

School of Medicine

Between their positions in the School of Medicine administration, Paula Davis, assistant dean of student affairs and director of minority programs, and Ann Thompson, associate dean for faculty affairs and director of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, influence the entire arc of a medical academic career path at Pitt—from premedical student recruitment to faculty development.

When Davis says, "Mentorship plays a vital role in work life and academic career planning," she speaks from both personal and professional experience—three former graduates of Minority Affairs summer premedical programs are now pursuing careers as part of the School of Medicine faculty at the University of Pittsburgh.
