Mentoring Success Stories

Tanya J. Fabian, PharmD, PhD, and Patricia D. Kroboth, PhD

School of Pharmacy

Under the mentorship of Patricia Kroboth, professor, former chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and recently appointed dean of the School of Pharmacy, Tanya Fabian recently completed a PhD in clinical pharmaceutical sciences and a three-year NIH postdoctoral fellowship; as a result, she advanced from the position of clinical scientist in geriatric psychoneuropharmacology to assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences. "The goal of mentors is not to replicate themselves," according to Fabian, "but rather to recognize your individual strengths and talents and facilitate the development of your research career."

This guiding philosophy has been beneficial thus far, certainly—among several other awards, Fabian last year received the International College of Geriatric Psychoneuropharmacology Award for her accomplishments as a young investigator.
